Although, I had performed well over 100 funerals in 25 years of being a pastor and walked nearly as many families through the grief process, but I was not prepared for this level of grief.  In seven months in 2021 I lost the three most influential and closest men in my life. My dad (78) who died of congestive heart failure, then three months later my pastor and the closest I have ever had to a big brother (62), and then then months later my second “dad” who was my closest prayer partner who actually passed away on my father’s birthday. It took the wind out of my sails.

Jesus told His disciples that He was going to be crucified and that took the wind out of their sails, then He told them this:

“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” John 14:1-3

God wants to help you through your pain. The trouble of death is real, real pain, real grief, and most of the times really unexpected.

My prayer is that this very imperfect book will help you connect with our Very Perfect Savior King Jesus and Heavenly Father during this unbearable time you are facing.
